Only caught the start of Straw’s bugging statement before boarding the plane and through the noise of the people in the departure lounge thought I heard him say the bugging of Khan was a breach of the Wilson Convention.
As mentioned previously though, bugging by Special Branch is not covered by the Convention, ergo there was no breach.
The question remains though, why was Khan bugged?
Additionally if it was the terror suspect who was the direct subject of the bug surely Special Branch would only have decided to maintain the bug in Khan’s presence if they felt Khan might not report something said by the terror suspect which should be brought to the attention of the authorities. Why would they have reason to believe that if such was the case?
