Election nights are always great fun and tonight promises to be no exception (even if the mayoral result won’t be in until tomorrow). Despite that though I’ll be at City Hall for the BBC party; I like to think of it as an opportunity to drink other people’s license fee!

Hi William, as far as I’m aware people in Northern Ireland do pay for a TV licence (just rang a few friends over there and they all have one).
As for the English taxpayer money going to Northern Ireland I quite agree that it’s excessive and a disgrace (I try not to think about how much of my salary disappears to subsidise Scotland and Nothern Ireland).
For what it’s worth though I love England; I wouldn’t live anywhere else.

I’ve been told, not infrequently, and with some gloating, that people in Northern Ireland don’t pay for a television licence.
I recall that one of The Snivelling Little Rat’s last acts as McReich’s Führer was to promise a paltry fifty thousand million English pounds to the one million six hundred thousand troublesome people of Northern Ireland, none of whom, of my acquaintance, have ever evinced one word of affection for England.
Enjoy your drink.
